When stationary charging is not available, this auxiliary charging cable can come in handy. Just connect it to an ordinary 230V household socket, and charging of the car is monitored by two-way communication between the car and the cable’s control box. When the cable is connected to the car, it performs self-test diagnostics to ensure that the cable is properly connected and that the car is ready to receive power before charging starts. The control box is integrated into the charging cable and plugged into an ordinary power socket.

Independent of weather, the car's powerful electric heater and air conditioning allow you to enjoy a comfortable cabin climate. A preconditioning function ensures that you can always enter a cabin that’s comfortably climatized before you go – whether it’s cold or hot on the outside. And by preconditioning the car while charging you will save battery energy and optimise your range. For optimised vision and comfort in cold weather, you can activate heating of the front seats, steering wheel, windscreen, rear window and door mirrors. The preconditioning is conveniently operated from your mobile phone via the Volvo Cars app, or simply by using the car’s centre display. Start it directly, or select among up to eight pre-set times for departure.

The four-zone climate system allows the driver, front-seat passenger and outer rear seat passengers to create their own individual climate comfort zone. Temperature, air distribution and fan speed is intuitively controlled via the centre display and the settings are easily accessed for both the driver and the front-seat passenger. The passengers on the outer rear seat positions control their individual temperature and fan speed via an elegant touch control panel. The heat pump acts primarily as a range extender that helps save battery power. When it’s cold outside, it transports thermal energy from either the ambient air or the battery and releases this energy to heat up the cabin. And by also supporting the air conditioner to work more efficiently, the heat pump helps save electric energy at a temperature range from -5°C up to +25°C. The heat pump can also help warm or cool the battery to optimise performance and range during long trips or heavy loads.

Helping to reduce the risk of interior fogging, the humidity sensor helps ensure cabin air has an appropriate level of humidity in relation to the outside climate.

This separate air conditioning system enhances comfort in the third row in hot weather. Adjustable air vents in the roof pillars allow the third-row passengers to regulate the airflow themselves and enjoy relaxed comfort during long journeys. Complementing the four-zone climate system, the system provides an air temperature that's a mix of the settings for the front seats and second row. The separate air conditioning is automatically activated when the third row is being used. Rest of the time it’s deactivated to optimise range. It can also be activated when the third row seats are folded and you, for example, have a pet in the load compartment. It also contributes to comfort in cold weather by quickly supplying warmed air after a cold start.

The frameless free-standing large 14.5-inch touch screen display gives you an instant overview and control of navigation, entertainment, climate, in-car apps, phone, park assist cameras and other support functions. The display's size and proportions make it possible to show a large map while still showing phone, media or app windows. The display is smart too – there’s a quick control view with shortcuts to commonly used functions and a contextual bar. For example, the contextual bar will not show the control for the 360° camera until the speed is so low that you can use that function. BLIS can monitor oncoming traffic from behind and help alert you when there’s a vehicle in your blind spot or if a vehicle approaches fast from behind. If you’re about to change lanes in busy traffic and the system detects a vehicle approaching your blind spot, you can be alerted with a light in the left or right door mirror. Should you nonetheless steer into the path of an oncoming vehicle, the car can even help steer you back in your lane to help avoid a collision. If there’s a fast-approaching vehicle coming from behind in an adjacent lane and there’s an imminent risk of a conflict situation, you can be alerted in the left or right door mirror. BLIS works in various weather and light conditions, day or night, and is active at all speeds over 10 km/h.

The car’s front radar, side radars and front camera are designed to keep a constant track on vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals ahead. If there's a risk of collision, the car can first alert the driver while there's still time for action. Should the driver not respond and a collision is likely to occur, the brakes can pre-charge to support driver initiated braking by providing the boosted braking effect needed to avoid a collision. When a collision is almost unavoidable, the car can brake automatically with full effect to help avoid or mitigate a collision. In certain situations, it can also steer away to help avoid a collision as long as the car stays in its lane. If a collision can’t be avoided, the front safety belts can be electrically retracted to put the occupants in the most favourable position before the impact for optimised protection.

Connected Safety is a cloud-based safety feature that can help you better prepare for potential hazards and other traffic situations ahead. Working quietly in the background, the system shares real-time information between connected Volvo cars. When a connected Volvo detects a potential danger, that information can be shared with nearby connected cars, alerting their drivers and giving them more time to anticipate and adapt their driving. Alerts can cover situations such as slippery roads, connected cars ahead with activated hazard lights, accident with deployed airbag, large animals on or near the road, pedestrians/cyclists on highways, and roadwork activities. This function can help prevent accidents where, for example, a passing cyclist rides into a door that swings open from a parked car. It can also alert car occupants of passing vehicles before opening the door. The car's rear radars can detect cars, cyclists, scooters, and pedestrians that approach from behind. If someone inside the parked car intends to open a door, the car can alert with visual and audible signals.

The drive modes make it easy to adapt the car's performance and efficiency to suit your needs. The standard default mode gives a good balance between performance, drivability, comfort and energy consumption. When range and energy efficiency are your top priorities, you can always enable range mode. And for enhanced road grip in challenging conditions there's an off-road mode. This mode also activates hill descent control for more relaxed driving at steep slopes. To optimise the all-wheel drive experience, the car also features a performance mode for an even more agile and responsive driving feel. All settings are easily accessible on the centre display.

The Driver Understanding system adds a new layer of safety by complementing the car's exterior sensing technology. It's designed to prevent driver distraction, drowsiness and even intoxication while allowing better understanding of the driver's state and intentions. Two interior sensors and a touch-sensitive steering wheel track the state of the driver. Should the driver for some reason be inattentive or disconnected, the system can alert the driver or even bring the car to a standstill if needed. This technology can also adapt the intervention of the car's collision avoidance systems depending on the driver's level of attention.

Emergency stop assist can add to safety in situations where the driver is disconnected or impaired. It can activate when the car notices the driver has let go of the steering wheel or is disconnected and no longer responsive – as in case of sudden illness or if the driver passes out or falls asleep. It also works when Pilot Assist is on and the driver has let go of the steering wheel for a while and doesn't react to repeated warnings. In these cases, the car can start sending alerts to get the driver’s attention. If the driver still doesn't respond, the car can brake to a stop in the lane and turn on the hazard lights. It can also automatically connect with a call centre, which can reach out to and identify the need for help. If the driver doesn't reply, they can send emergency services to the car’s location.

The large head-up display presents vital driver information so it appears in your field of vision at a distance that's comfortable for your eyes. You can keep your eyes on the traffic at the same time as you see actual speed, speed limits, navigation directions and more. You don't have to change focus or look down, which gives less strain on the eyes. The brightness of the head-up display adapts automatically to the light conditions, and you can set the system to suit your own personal preferences.

Our headlight cleaning uses high-pressure jets to efficiently remove dirt from the headlamps and is activated together with the windscreen washers. When activated, nozzles pop out of the bumpers. Intelligent sequential cleaning helps save washer fluid.

Our advanced High Definition Pixel headlights make driving in the dark both safer and more relaxed. Stressed about parking? With this new generation Park Pilot Assist, you can relax and leave the parking to your car. It can detect free parking lots on both sides of the car and show them in the centre display. Then just select the preferred parking lot, and the car will park itself by taking over steering as well as the accelerator, braking and gear shifts. All you have to do is to supervise. Park Pilot Assist works for several parking scenarios and can also support when leaving a tight parallel parking space.

We designed this new function to enhance safety for unprotected road users on rural roads with visible road marks. If you for example don't spot a cyclist travelling in the car's direction and there's risk of a collision, the car can actively steer away from the cyclist as long as the car does not cross the lane markings. After having passed the cyclist, the car regains its position on the road. This function can detect pedestrians, cyclists, and scooters. Please note: The driver is always responsible for how the car is controlled; this is only a supportive function.

Enjoy comfortable driving on multi-lane highways as well as on single-lane roads. In addition to the convenient speed control functions of adaptive cruise control, Pilot Assist can provide gentle steering support to keep the car centred in its lane. In certain conditions, it can even assist during lane changes. And when passing large vehicles such as trucks, the car can adapt your position on the road to make it more pleasant for you as a driver. When the road turns, the car can adjust the speed in curves or roundabouts, for example, to enhance your comfort. And as the speed limit changes, the car can also suggest changing the set speed to comply with the new speed limit. Further contributing to relaxed driving in stop-and-go traffic, Pilot Assist can automatically keep the car centred in its lane while adjusting the speed all the way down to stop and assist in following the traffic as it moves again. Pilot Assist is active from standstill up to 150 km/h. You can enjoy convenient support but must be as attentive and engaged as during normal driving. If the system detects that the driver is not responsive, it can brake the car to a standstill within the lane. Please note: The driver is always responsible for how the car is controlled as well as for maintaining the correct distance and speed, even when Pilot Assist is being used. Advanced driver assist systems, such as Pilot Assist, are restricted in how much acceleration, braking and steering force they can apply.

The rain sensor can start the windscreen wipers as soon as it begins to rain or if water splashes onto the windscreen. For your convenience, it also adjusts the speed of the windscreen wipers.

Cross traffic alert helps make it safer to reverse and park where visibility is limited. Using the rear side radars, the car can alert you on crossing vehicles at a distance of up to 30 metres. At shorter distances, it can also detect and alert for pedestrians and cyclists. It can even brake for you if there’s a risk of collision. Low speed auto brake uses the rear camera to also detect stationary objects and people behind the car, including children, to brake automatically if there's a risk of collision – very useful when reversing in tight areas such as parking houses.

Road sign information helps keep you updated on speed limits and other traffic restrictions. It alerts on speed limits, important prohibition signs and various types of supplementary signs. The actual road sign is shown in the driver display and optional head-up display. If you exceed the speed limit, Road sign information can alert you with a flashing speed limit sign icon and sound. And if driving in the wrong direction on a one-way street, you will be alerted with a no-entry sign icon and an audible signal. The car constantly monitors lane markings as well as the road edge to help prevent run-off-road accidents. If the driver strays over the outer lane marking or the road edge, this feature can support by helping to steer the car back onto the road.

Our Indirect Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (iTPMS) instantly alerts you on the driver display if a tyre is low on pressure, helping to maintain safe handling. The system is active from 30 km/h.

Personal help and support are always close at hand in your Volvo. Together with the safety belts, the frontal airbags help protect the head, face and chest in a frontal collision. They're intelligent too: to optimise protection, the airbags adapt the level of inflation to the force of the impact. And if the impact is so low that the airbags aren’t needed, the system will only deploy safety belt pre-tensioners if necessary. To make it possible to mount a child seat in the front passenger seat, the passenger airbag can easily be disconnected using a cut-off switch.

ISOFIX is the safest and most convenient way to fit a child seat in your Volvo.
